Sellin's South Beach in early autumn
Nearby places to explore
Many attractions can be easily reached and explored without a car thanks to the central location of the holiday flat in the Baltic seaside resort of Sellin and the well-developed infrastructure. The railway station for the regular shuttle to the South Beach and for regular buses (some free with a spa card) is just a few steps behind the Seepark complex. The station for the nostalgic steam train 'Rasender Roland' is also within easy reach. It connects several Baltic seaside resorts and runs from Putbus via Binz to Göhren (and back).
With the guest card, you can take part in regular events free of charge, such as guided hikes with information about the surrounding flora and fauna or guided tours about the history of the seaside resort and its villa architecture.
Right next door is the AHOI Water Adventure World, which is very popular with families because of the bathing fun with its water slide and baby pool. It is also popular in rainy weather or during the cold season. As a guest of apartment no. 611 you receive reduced admission with your guest card (currently 25% discount).
Sellin Pier
The real landmark of Sellin is the beautiful pier with its restaurant, diving gondola and ferry landing stage. The first walk will take you directly from your apartment along the promenade at the complex area and the Wilhelmstraße with its typical German seaside villas, shops and restaurants.
More impressions
South Beach
The second attraction is the South Beach, which can be reached in about 10 minutes by walking from the pier or directly from your apartment via Ostbahnstraße and Weißer Steg - admittedly with a decent climb (steep coast).
The fine, silky sand is ideal for walking barefoot. There is also a large volleyball court and a nudist beach. From here you can walk directly along the water in a southerly direction for about 4 kilometres to the seaside resort of Göhren. In between, you can fortify yourself with freshly smoked eel and sea buckthorn soda near the beach at Baabe.
High-level hiking trail
Heading north from the forecourt of the pier and the park on the high shore, where there is a terrace for open-air concerts, you reach the high-level hiking trail along the cliffs, which are up to 70 metres high. It leads up and down through a beautiful beech forest with marvellous views of the Baltic Sea. You will there find great places to see nature at its very best.
After about 7.5 kilometres, you reach the beach at Binz, where you can linger a while and take a look at the seaside resort.
You can return to Sellin on the ‘Rasender Roland’, the narrow-gauge steam train, which is another attraction, or by ferry from the Binz pier. Of course, you can also walk back through the Granitz nature reserve.
Granitz Castle
The Granitz Castle in the immediate vicinity between Sellin and Binz is definitely worth a visit.
The path to the castle's observation tower leads up an iron staircase attached to the wall, and the reward is a marvellous view of almost the entire island.
Festive season
By the way,
even during the festive season - Advent, Christmas, New Year, Easter and Whitsun - a visit to the Baltic seaside resort of Sellin is always worthwhile.
